Re: Minutes from Parks Committee Meeting 6/01/09

The Parks Committee met at the Town Hall 6/01/09 at 7:00PM. Committee
members present were Jon Jarosh, Joe Jarosh, Eric Wickstrom, Katie
Hebel, and Michael Bieri. Guests were Paula Bley and Nancy Townsend.

Jon Jarosh, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 7:00PM. Michael
motioned to approve the agenda, Eric seconded, all were in favor.

There was no public comment.

The Parks Committee organization has changed, with Katie Hebel and Joe
Jarosh replacing members Tom Ash and Aaron LeClair. Terms were agreed
at two years, ending in February 2011, for Katie, Joe and Mike and one
year, ending in February 2010, for Jon and Eric. In the future,
membership changes will be submitted to the Town Board after the
December meeting each year for approval prior to the Parks Committee
meeting in February.

The Town Board hired Tim Bley as the maintenance person replacing
Terry Simon. Joe mentioned he had talked to Terry and that Terry would
be willing to meet with Tim regarding some of the basics of the job.
Jon will email the Town Board to get their approval.

Under Old Business, Jon gave an update on the Grovogel property. The
property is not currently available. Jon has talked to Denise Bhirdo,
from Sister Bay, about ideas for grant money. The Committee is trying
to establish a list of properties of interest for future acquisition.
This will be discussed further at the August meeting. Jon will try to
get some maps to help with this process.
The Ball Field project has been completed. Overall the Committee was
not pleased with the job. The infield pitch had several areas with
dips that had to be repaired. Volunteers completed the Warning track.

Under New Business, the current Park condition was discussed and
several areas were mentioned. The women’s pit toilet was not ready for
Maifest, it was full of debris and no toilet tissue was available.
Stakes and materials left over from Maifest were piled under the west
shelter. There was a tree limb down near the parking lot. At the Ball
Field, the dumpster was overflowing, the overhead door on the storage
building was damaged along the bottom edge and separating. At the
Park, there were no picnic tables under the shelters. Flower planting
in the Park barrels and on the corners at HWY 57 and County V will be
done in the next two weeks. The volunteer planters were concerned
about the needed watering this summer. Is this something the Town
maintenance person will be doing? Jon will email the Town requesting
this be done. If this was not approved by the Town, Joe will ask the
various civic groups in Jacksonport to share this duty on a monthly
basis at a meeting June 11.

Eric asked Paula Bley for an update on the playground equipment
project funded by the Jacksonport Advancement Corp. Paula and Mary
Seeburg are heading up this project and are still in the planning
stage. Katie Hebel was interested and will mention this to the Womens
Club to see if they may be interested in participation.

Jon requested that any agenda items for the August meeting be emailed
to him prior to July 24th.

The Parks Committee meeting was adjourned at 8:05PM.
