TOWN OF JACKSONPORT BOARD OF REVIEW
June 7, 2008, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The Board of Review met at the Jacksonport Town Hall on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. Those present were: (Roll call by clerk) Assessor Troy Zacharias, Aaron LeClair, Jeanne Majeski and Eileen Phetteplace. Carol Oram was available, if needed she could be called and would come in. The statement of public notice was posted at Bley’s Grocery, Mike’s Port Pub, Mr G’s Logan Creek Grille, Jacksonport Town Hall, and on the door at the Town Hall. It was published in the Door County Advocate.
Motion (Eileen/Aaron/Passed) to appoint Jeanne as Chairman of the Board of Review. Motion (Aaron/Eileen/Passed) to appoint Aaron as Vice Chairman.
The Board of Review was called to order at 4:30 p.m. by Chairman Jeanne Majeski.
Eileen indicated that George Bagnall, Jeanne Majeski and Eileen Phetteplace had attended the mandatory training session on March 14, 2008. Aaron LeClair had attended the mandatory training session on February 18, 2006.
Assessor Troy Zacharias signed the assessment roll and it was received by Clerk Eileen Phetteplace.
PROCEDURES:
Board examines assessment roll.
1. All witnesses sworn in.
“Do you solemnly swear that the testimony you shall give in this matter shall be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God.”
or
“Do you solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare and affirm that the testimony. . .”
2. Grant waver:
“Do you waive your 48 hour notice requirement at this time?”
Property owner sworn in first. Must have written objection form filled in included what they think the valuation should be (Taxes are not discussed at this time)
Swear in assessor. Assessor gives testimony.
Board questions property owner and assessor if necessary. After testimony, the Board of Review deliberates on the testimony. (Assessment may be changed only by a majority vote of the board).
Board renders decision. (Assessor is presumed to be correct unless proven otherwise).
Prior to adjournment, the Board of review must provide the property owner with a notice of the final assessment and appeal rights as set forth in sec. 70.47(12).
There were no people that asked to appear before the Board of Review.
Motion (Eileen/Jeanne/Passed) to adjourn the Board of Review. Board of Review adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
