January 26, 2010 Town Board Meeting
TOWN OF JACKSONPORT BOARD MEETING
Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall
Chairman Jim Sarosiek called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Al Scharrig.
Present: Chairman Jim Sarosiek, Supervisor Randy Halstead, Supervisor Jeanne Majeski, Clerk Eileen Phetteplace and Treasurer Carol Oram.
Agenda. Motion (Jeanne/Randy/Passed) to accept the agenda for the January 26, 2009 meeting as presented.
Motion (Randy/Jeanne/Passed) to accept the minutes of the Town Board meeting of December 15, 2009 as amended (correct date to blizzard on December 9th).
Treasurer Report: Reminder that Thursday the 28 from 6:30 until 8:00 PM will be my last time for tax collections at the town hall. All payment will be receipted by the post mark on the envelope. First installments or complete payments are due by February 5, 2010.
Also remember to buy dog license. The total tax collected at this time is $1,517,404.48.
We have closed our sweep account and opened a new money market in order to receive a better rate of interest on the tax dollars collected. All payments due by January 15 have been made to the county, state, and schools. -Presented by Treasurer, Carol Oram. Motion (Randy/Jeanne/Passed) to accept the treasurer’s report as presented.
Committee Reports. Little Bit LeClair, the Town representative serving on the Door County Tourism Zone Commission reported that legal action is being taken against the businesses still not complying with the room tax collection. She also reported that a new resolution was being prepared for municipality signature.
Paul Ozburn, the Fire Advisor Committee chairperson reported the new brush truck will be ready in February or March. The committee is working on a long-range plan. 2009 was very busy, with 40 calls in the town compared to 22 calls in 2008. Joe Jarosh presented the town board members with copies of the 2010 Jacksonport brochure. He thanked the town board for supporting it financially.
Public Comment. Larry DeMeuse expressed interest in the town maintenance position and submitted his resume. Kari Anderson asked the question if there was a plan for how the tourism zone tax dollars are spent.
County Board No report Nancy Bemmann was absent.
Snowplowing town roads was discussed. Per Jim, Aaron LeClair will serve as his designee regarding snowplowing services in the town. Aaron will determine when Eric Peil, Peil Construction LLC will be called out. As designee, Aaron will be able to submit mileage incurred in the performance of that duty for reimbursement. Jeanne will research if that reimbursement can be taken out of the town chair wages.
Jim asked Herb Miller, representing the Jacksonport Historical Society to put a plan together and present it to the town board regarding their interest in the MAC fire Truck.
Dawn Craig and Mike Lautenbach had emailed the town board members, expressing an interest in serving on the Jacksonport Parks Committee. Motion (Jeanne/Randy/Passed) to appoint Dawn Craig and Mike Lautenbach to serve on the committee for a two year term.
Jim reported that he did hire Kath Reeves to do the cleaning for the town hall.
The town maintenance position was discussed and it was decided that Eileen should post a notice that the Town of Jacksonport will hire a part-time maintenance person and that interested people should submit a short resume to her. The job description would also be posted at the town hall.
Town Board members agreed to set February 4, 2010, 7:00 pm as the date to conduct the audit of the town books.
Town Board member agreed to register themselves to attend one of the WTA District meetings. If carpooling they need to notify the clerk so that it can be posted.
Motion (Jeanne/Randy/Passed) to adopt Resolution 1-2010, to allocate funds from one budget item to another.
Town Board members agreed to set the following dates as recommended by Action Appraisers & Consultants:
Open Book – Saturday, May 22, 2010 from 9 – 11 am
Board of Review – Saturday, June 5, 2010 from 9 – 11 am
The Intergovernmental Agreement and Tasks Check [Repair of Highway(s)] with the Door County Highway Department was discussed, but no action taken.
Motion (Randy/Jeanne/Passed) to accept and approve payment of the invoices which had been submitted to the Town.
