December 2, 2008 Public Hearing: Town of Jacksonport
TOWN OF JACKSONPORT
Public Hearing
Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Town Hall
The public hearing was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor
Aaron LeClair.
Present were Town of Jacksonport; Supervisor Aaron LeClair, Supervisor
Jeanne Majeski, Treasurer Carol Oram and Clerk Eileen Phetteplace.
The purpose of the hearing was to provide information and allow public
comment on a proposed ordinance to regulate the use of motorized
boating activities upon the waters of Logan Creek and portions of the
north end of Clark Lake.
B.J. Cassidy, vice-president of the Clark Lake Advancement Association
(CLAA) summarized the efforts of their organization which started over
five years ago. The CLAA would be responsible for placing the three
buoys indicating the no-motor zone. CLAA would also post not less than
four signs at the three public access points to Clark Lake. CLAA has
volunteered to cover the costs of both the signs and buoys.
Paul Mahlberg and Steve Leonard spoke in support of the ordinance.
B.J. Cassidy said enforcement of the ordinance would be left up to the
DNR wardens and the Door County Sheriff’s Department.
Bob Geitner expressed his opposition to the ordinance.
Tom Cassidy pointed out that the Wisconsin Department of Natural
Resources does support the ordinance.
Lawrie Kull stated his support of the ordinance. He encouraged people
to use the area with canoes or kayaks.
J.R. Jarosh also stated that he felt the ordinance was an overreaction
to the boat traffic in the area.
Jim Lavachek, Town of Sevastopol, expressed great concern. He
supported the ordinance, because you can’t simply hope that people
will not abuse the area.
The Town Board will include the Ordinance on the December 16, 2008
agenda. Action will be taken at that meeting.
Discussion ended. The hearing closed at 7:35 pm.
