August 23, 2007 Jacksonport Fire Commission
TOWN OF JACKSONPORT FIRE COMMISSION MEETING
Thursday, August 23, 2007 at the Town Hall
The meeting was called to order at 6:08 p.m.
Present: Chairman George Bagnall, Supervisors Aaron LeClair and Jeanne Majeski. Also in attendance was Adam Bley.
Purpose of the meeting was to review ordinance 4-02 and pay periods for fire fighters and EMTs.
Aaron presented a Computer Usage Policy to the board. Copies of this policy will be given to all Fire Department personnel. They will be asked to sign an agreement stating they have read and understood the Computer Resources Policies and Procedures. At the present time only the Fire Chief and Aaron need access to the computer. The computer has been passworded so anyone else needing to use the computer will need to get a password from Aaron. The office and files will be locked. Usage on the computer will be tracked. An accusation was made that the computer was being used for non fire department uses. A thorough investigation was made and there was no inappropriate use of the computer system which could be attributed to a specific individual – therefore no action was taken.
Motion (Jeanne/Aaron/Passed) to adopt the Computer Usage Policy and incorporate it in section IX Governing Rules of Town Ordinance 4-02: Jacksonport Volunteer Fire Department.
The Jacksonport Volunteer Fire Department Ordinance 4-02 was reviewed. The
following changes were suggested:
1. Section V. E. Training officer: Delete the entire section because there is no longer a training officer.
2. Section VI. Duties. Fire Chief: first line after “operation of the department” add: “insuring that all personnel are properly trained”
3. Section VI. Duties: Delete section on Training officer
4. Section IX. Governing Rules: at the end after “ordinance procedure” add: “and policies, standard operating guidelines and standards of conduct.”
5. Ask Eileen to add a section to her Ordinances and Resolutions, titled Policies and place a copy of the Computer Usage Policy.
Motion (Aaron/Jeanne/Passed) to amend the Payroll Authorization form by adding first responders after firefighters in the first paragraph and change bi-annually to semi-annually in both paragraphs.
Aaron asked the board to review the forms over the weekend so that he can send them out to fire department personnel on Monday and get the signed forms back by the 15th.
Aaron reported that new radios and pagers will be needed because of the new frequencies that will be used. WBDK is hoping to have a raffle to help pay for pagers in Door County.
Aaron has also written for grants for 18 radios, pagers, upgrades for our 4 portable radios, and another thermo imaging camera.
The department is also considering an additional laptop computer to help with inventory of equipment at the station and compilation of reports.
