Town of Jacksonport Annual Meeting
Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the Town Hall
The annual meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman Jim Sarosiek. Fifty people were in attendance.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Alvin Scharrig.
Chairman asked people to state their name and address before speaking.
Minutes of the 2009 annual meeting were read by Carol Oram. Motion (Aaron LeClair/Jeff Ploor/passed) to accept the minutes.
Motion (Joe Jarosh/Aaron LeClair/passed) to set the annual meeting for next year on April 12, 2011 at 7:30.
A summary of the fire department activities was given by Fire Chief Tom Ash. Hand outs were available at the meeting. The report is attached to the minutes in its entirety.
Aaron LeClair captain of the Jacksonport Fire Department reported on a new association called the Jacksonport Fire Fighters Association. It was just formed in January, very much in the early stages. They are not 501C3 at this time. They will need money to accomplish this therefore there will be up coming fund raisers in the town.
The association consists of 4 memberships, the Active, Special, Associate and the Honorary. Officers are President, Aaron LeClair, vice president Kelly Herman, Treasurer Tim Bley and Mallory Haberli is secretary. There are also three board members, Darin DeFere, Josh Sawyer and Adam Bley. Purpose of the association is to promote better fire service relationship with the community. Any questions please contact Aaron LeClair.
Chairman Jim Sarosiek summarized some of the highlights from 2009:
1. Jacksonport Polar Bear Club presents a $1,300 check to the fire department.
2. Fire Advisory Committee vs. Commission formed in early 2009, chaired by Paul Osborne.
3. Farmer’s market approved for Lakeside Park for the summer and fall months.
4. A new brush truck was approved for the fire department.
5. A revised emergency action plan was adopted for the town to bring it into NIMS compliance.
6. Approved road work for Schauer Road/Clarks Lake Court and on Jorn’s Road totaling about $180,000; also work on Trails End Court in the amount of approximately $16,000.
7. Terry Simon left the position of maintenance person to be replaced by Tim Bley.
8. Aaron LeClair resigned as Town Chairman in May.
9. I was appointed Town Chairman in June.
10. New playground equipment was donated by JAC.
11. The town board approved funds for the new town marketing brochure.
12. We contracted out the snowplowing of the town roads to a private contractor.
13. The Schauer Park boat launch project was approved for lease to the county at a meeting in November.
14. Work was finalized for the improvement of drainage on the town’s ball field.
15. The town was awarded $10,000 in TRIP funds for Bagnall Road to be spent in 2011.
16. Scenic Byways have been officially approved in Door County for highway 42 & 57 north of Sturgeon Bay. Now making it eligible for the grant program.
Chairman Jim Sarosiek also announced that he is resigning as Jacksonport Town Chairman. Jim stated personal reasons.
Town Clerk Eileen Phetteplace ask in the interest of saving paper, postage and printing cost would it be sufficient to leave out the 6 extra pages of detailed receipts and expenditure on the financial report to be mailed.
The town board and Eric Peil asked for feedback on the snowplowing of town roads. There were only positive comments. Althea Logerquist, Kathy Gerdman and Marlene Larson all spoke in favor of the 2009, 2010 snowplowing.
Joe Majeski thanked the taxpayers and the town people for their support of Sevastopol School and the township.
Joe stated that Sevastopol students are doing very well and the community can be very proud.
Carrie Anderson thanked everyone for their support in her election to the county board. She can be reached by phone. The number is under her husbands name Paul Witalison.
Little Bit LeClair made a request that the buoy’s be set out in front of the pilings.
Joe Jarosh reported on the Jacksonport Park Committee. There is a 5 year wish list. They are looking for input from the town’s people as to what they would like to see. They are also looking for playground equipment to be placed at the ball park. Used equipment is fine. Please call Joe with any information.
Joe also reminded people that the Jacksonport Business Brochure is available.
Motion (Aaron LeClair/JR Jarosh/passed) to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 8:11 p.m.
