TOWN OF JACKSONPORT ANNUAL MEETING
Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at the Town Hall
The annual meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman Alvin Birnschein. Forty-three people were in attendance.
Chairman asked people to state their name and address before speaking.
The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Ben Logerquist.
Minutes of the 2004 Annual Meeting were read by Eileen Phetteplace. Motion (Sue Jarosh/Mary Herlache/Passed) to accept the minutes.
Motion (Marlene Larson/Bill Sampone/Passed) to set the annual meeting for next year on the 2nd Tuesday of April, April 11, 2006 at 7:30 P.M.
Chairman Alvin Birnschein thanked Patrick Eaton for the past 8 years serving as Town Constable. A round of applause was given to him.
Patrick Eaton wants to thank the Town and Friends. He reported that 2004 was a fairly quiet year; however St. Michael’s Church was broken into.
Fire Chief Brad Bley reported that 2004 was a very quiet year. Fourteen calls in all; minor stuff, 2 water rescues, 2 chimney fires, 4 false alarms and the remainder vehicle related. The Fire Department will be taking their ISO test. Hopefully that will lower the fire insurance costs for the Town.
Ben Logerquist reported that it was also a quiet year for the First Responders. Not even one a month. We have nine State Certified First Responders. (Adam Bley, Wayne Bley, Jill Lautenbach, EMT Loureen Lautenbach, Paramedic and EMT Aaron LeClair, Ben Logerquist, Christine Reese, Mike Skippon, and EMT Marsha Wilson).
Report by Alvin Birnschein regarding Town items accomplished in 2004.
• Repaved one mile of Logerquist Road. Plans to finish the remainder in 2005.
• The ditch on Clark Lake Court was cut and brushed. Additional brush will be cut in the Town. Plans to redo ¼ mile of Clark Lake Court.
• Building permits and inspections are up and running, with Independent Inspections, Ltd. performing the work.
• The Town of Sevastopol has added a forty-foot pier by the boat launch.
• The Town Hall remodeling project was completed within budget, thanks to the efforts of volunteers donating their time. Plus, the donations from the Jacksonport Advancement Association, the Jacksonport Women’s Club and the Clark Lake Advancement Association.
Motion (Bradley Bley/Mary Herlache/Passed) to change the position of Town Constable to an appointed position.
It was suggested that Mark Richards could be hired to act as an animal control officer. Patrick Eaton said there are about six calls a year regarding stray dogs.
Motion (Darrel Birnschein/Sue Jarosh/Passed) to increase the Town Clerks salary an additional $2,000 in 2007.
Motion (Jonathan Jarosh/JR Jarosh/Failed to pass) to change the recycling schedule to twice a month year round rather than only during May through October. [Thirteen for, twenty-three against].
