April 10, 2007 Annual Town Meeting
TOWN OF JACKSONPORT ANNUAL MEETING
Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at the Town Hall
The annual meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman George Bagnall. Fifty people were in attendance.
The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Ben Logerquist.
Chairman asked people to state their name and address before speaking.
Minutes of the 2006 Annual Meeting were read by Eileen Phetteplace. Motion (Marlene Larson/Jerry Cote/Passed) to accept the minutes.
Motion (Darrel Birnschein/Althea Logerquist/Passed) to set the annual meeting for next year on the 2nd Tuesday of April, April 8, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.
Marsha Wilson thanked the town for their continued support. She reported that the First Responders had 40 calls last year. The calls ranged from car accidents to people who had medical emergencies. Currently the town has eight State Certified First Responders. (Adam Bley, Wayne Bley, Jill Lautenbach, Christine Reese, Mike Skippon, Paramedic and EMT Aaron LeClair, and two EMTs Faith Kruger and Marsha Wilson) Three of the Town automatic defibulators will need to be upgraded and one replaced. This is due to new American Heart CPR guidelines.
Fire Chief Brad Bley reported that in 2006 the Volunteer Fire Department responded to 18 calls. They were as follows: one chimney fire, one LP tank leak, one LP tank explosion, two CO alarms, one grass fire, two fire alarms, one missing person search, two water rescues, one rubbish fire and six motor vehicle accidents.
Chairman George Bagnall gave a review of 2006. Terry Simon was hired as the town maintenance man. He and his wife Darlene received a round of applause for the great job they are doing for the town. Many of the hours are volunteered.
George also said some of the neighboring towns are paying their first responders. He summarized the numbers, which varied from no pay to $20 a call. Some first responders are not paid for the calls they make, but are paid to attend training sessions. Motion (Brad Bley/Marlene Larson/Passed) to give the Town Board the authority to pay the First Responders as they see fit.
The members of the Jacksonport Town Cemetery Committee are Aaron LeClair, Bob Kufrin and Alvin Scharrig. They have purchased a memorial stone for names of Town of Jacksonport deceased that do not have a memorial elsewhere. The fee to have a name placed on that stone will be $350.
All of the old cottonwood trees have been cut down and removed from Lakeside Park. The Jacksonport Advancement Corporation (JAC) will purchase three maple trees and have them planted this spring. The members of the Jacksonport Town Park Committee are Aaron LeClair, Brad Bley, Tom Ash and Eric Wickstrom.
George thanked all of the organizations that have made donations to the town. Specifically he wanted to thank JAC and the Jacksonport Historical Society for contributing money toward the new sound system in the Town Hall.
George then summarized the road work that had been completed in the town during 2006. Work was done on Memorial Drive, Hillside Road, Bochek Road, Bagnall Road, Town Line, Road, and Sunny Slope Road. North Cave Point Drive was scheduled for work, but it was postponed because of budget constraints. It is scheduled for work in 2007. Cost of road work increased 30% during 2006. The Town of Jacksonport approved exceeding the levy limit by an additional $100,000 for road purposes in 2007.
