Civic Life

For a town its size, Jacksonport teems with civic-minded residents who devote time, labor and expertise in service to the community.

Visitors who flock to Jacksonport’s premier event — Maifest — have no idea how many people contribute to the planning and operation of the Memorial Day tradition. Long before the first brats hit the grill, dozens of townspeople deal with the logistics of lining up entertainment, setting up the arts and crafts fair and organizing the parade.

Our other major events — Cherry Fest, the Thanksgiving Day benefit parade and the Polar Bear Club plunge — depend on volunteer helpers.

Whenever a need arises, townspeople step up — clearing fallen trees after a storm, planting flowers at the park and gathering donations for the needy, to name just a few charitable acts commonplace in Jacksonport.
